British Downhill Series rnd 5 Caersws
Just back from the last round of the British National series at Caersws. I haven’t been doing the british series this year because of doing the european races, but I decided I wanted to do this one last minute and I luckily managed to get a lift down with the Craig and Ali Shaw from Boat of Garten,(cheers guys).

The track was fun but pretty basic as most of the corners where pretty mellow and in between them it was either a case of being off the brakes or getting the pedals in. At the end there was even a 25 second sprint through a field! I was enjoying the track in practice and felt pretty fast on the more tech parts of the track. The times were really tight come race run and in the end I didn’t quite achieve what I wanted this weekend. I didn’t do too much wrong except braking too much and then coming into the field sprint I sat down spinning and tucked for way too long, when in hindsight I should have stood up and sprinted from the start. I’m not sure why I sat down as I wasn’t tired and could have sprinted all the way as I do plenty of training for that sort of thing. I could of pedalled a lot harder and it’s annoying looking back on it with the times being so tight. I ended up in 6th, 2 secs back on 1st which was a pretty close but also slightly dissapointing result. I know what to work on now for these short easy tracks as they have been a bit of a weakness of mine. I prefer the longer tech tracks and they seem to suit my style but sometimes I think I ride a bit too smooth and conservative on the short courses. Oh well I will be pedalling hard and going flat out in the field sprints from now on!
